About us
MNAM was created in 2020 as and was quite simply a retirement gift to myself. I only expected it to last a year, but, well, here we are!
My background hasn’t always been in fabric, or sewing, but my Dad insisted I get a proper job at 16 years old so I went into nursing and social care and there I stayed for over 30 years! But there comes a time…..
I rented a small shop in a beleaguered town on the West Coast of Cumbria, thinking it would inspire and encourage some of the population to develop new skills and share time together……but it was the beginning of the pandemic, so opened in February and closed in the March of 2020 but……..
We continued to work throughout the pandemic, initially providing activities for members of the community (Boredom Boxes) and then started making re-usable masks for carers and care agencies and then for the general public. In fact a team of 7 volunteers went on to make over 4000 masks and received an award from the High Sherrif of Cumbria!
After 18 months a new space became available, a much bigger space in the back of what was known as the Old Pyjama Factory…..how fitting! Here the shop and workshop were developed, and a café added! This dream lasted for over 3 years and then it was time to move on!
